Ain't GOD GREAT!!

Patty had a MRI today...and it was CLEAR...No Tumor!! No Cancer!! It is GONE!!!!(Praise God) Dr. Kingman said that she was doing really good and that he wouldn't need to see her for 3 months! She will go back on Wednesday and be hooked up to a monitor that will scan the brain for 48 hours to see if there is any seizure activity. She will also see a speech therapist, they will set a benchmark to see where she is and make a plan to get her speech and her brain waves back on track!! (Maybe I could sign up for some of that therapy :)

Patty will continue following the chemo plan, taking the "Chemo Pill" for 5 days a month for the next 10 months.

She wants yall to know that this couldn't have happened without your prayers and your true belief in God's ability to heal her!! God has truly blessed her with His healing and LOVE. She is thankful to all of you for the prayers, cards, food and positive thoughts! God is GREAT! All Praise goes to Him!!

God Bless!

2 more radiation treatments...then vacation time!

Patty has 2 more radiation treatments. She will continue to take the "chemo pill" for another 10 days, then she will give her body a rest from all treatment for a month, then start back on the "chemo pill". In early August she will have a MRI. (VERY IMPORTANT)

She had an appointment with the neurosurgeon (Dr. Kingman), he gave her a very good report and feels like she is doing great. She will have an appointment with the oncologist (Dr. Fichtel) on Tuesday, then she will be released until the August appointment. Her last appointment with the radiologists (Dr. Eyre) was last Thursday. He told her that depending on the results of the MRI will determine if he sees her again.

She hasn't been sick from the chemo (THANK GOD), she does feel tired. We have plans to go to Colorado and give her time to rest in the cool climate! She has lost some hair around the radiation site and on the right side of the back of her head...shes thinking about shaving it...she says she always wanted to shave her head??? I volunteered...but she wasn't too crazy about that, Ms Janie Ferguson from Uvalde will be in charge of the styling...(darn it) :)

She (along with Dr. Rogers) has decided that it would be best if she spent time healing for the 1st semester of the coming school year, the school has given her such wonderful support in allowing her to make this decision...it was very hard for her, but in the long run it will be best. During that time she will be working with a Speech therapist to help her re-train her brain. We aren't for sure if this will take place around Sabinal or if she will have to be in San Antonio.

I have mentioned the names of her Doctors so yall can lift them up in yall's prayers of THANKS!! They have done a wonderful job in making Patty feel comfortable in this healing process. Dr. Rogers is her regular doctor. She listened to Patty at the first and that alone got Patty in to the Doctors that she needed to see.

Again thanks for everything from the food to the cards, but mainly the prayers!! Miracles occur all of the time because of our strong belief in God's ability to heal.

God Bless

Three Weeks down...Three Weeks To Go

Patty has finished 3 weeks of radiation and Chemo. She is losing some hair around the radiation site...but other than that there hasn't been any other side effects. She had a Dr's appointment at the beginning of last week and she got a really good report. She continues to stay in San Antonio with Omie and Opie. Karen Phillips and I went up on Tuesday and took her to the Radiation treatment, then to eat out at La Cantera...of course we did some shopping.

She is looking forward to the family reunion...

Thanks again for all of the cards and food and love and PRAYERS...

Finally!!!

OK Guys...Patty has heard from the ones who know??? She will start her radiation treatment on Monday and will start taking the chemo pills on Monday night. She will be staying in SA with Omie and Opie during the week. She will be "Off" from the radiation over the week-ends and start back up on Mondays, having 30 treatments total.

She has had some really good days, yesterday she had Ms. Janie style her hair, while there Mrs Phillips came by and kidnapped her and took her to the Main Grill in Uvalde...She went for a mile and a half walk this morning...it was actually cool outside???

She wants yall to know that she REALLY REALLY appreciates the kind words and all of the PRAYERS!! She ended the last post with "Patty knows your strength is her strength"...right after that she read Little Goodson's (Laura) comments! "If it is hard to find the strength know that we will be strong for you, if it is hard to smile know that we will smile for you....you are not going through this alone...we are all fighting with you." Very strong words...but it is exactly what we need to do for her. I will add...and we will pray, and pray, and pray for her for God is on her side and God will give her strength...together as the Patty Raye's Prayer Warriors we will stand for her as she fights, and we will fight with her!

God Bless

The Waiting Game

Sorry guys...I know it has been awhile. I was waiting till we really knew something...obviously we are still waiting.

Patty had several Doctor appointments last week...with the oncologist, the radiologist and the neurosurgeon. They did receive the pathology report of the tumor back from the Mayo Clinic. The results were the same as the biopseies, yes she had two!! The report said that it was an Astrocytoma grade 3. Which means that it was malignant. The neurosurgeon said he feels that he got all of the tumor that he could see...which is a good sign. She has had some minor side effects from the surgery...but is working through them. The doctors will follow their plan that was set up prior to the surgery...She will receive Chemotherapy and Radiation. The chemotherapy will be administered through a capsule which she will take for about 42 days, take a break then take some more...she will be going through radiation for about 30 days during the same time...she still doesn't have a set schedule as to when they will start...hopefully we can get that tomorrow.

Her brother, Bobby Jay from Alaska flew in last Thursday. His son Robert is graduating from High School and his daughter Trisha is in the miliatary and is stationed in SA. He will be in Texas for awhile.

Patty has been using the time off to recover from the surgery, going through all of the medicine information, and looking at all of the cards she has received as well as go through the blog. She loves hearing from her students...both current and graduates as well as all of her family and friends. Patty knows your strength is her strength.

We did manage to get over to the movies...and yes we had our "REQUIRED" popcorn!!! All we could eat!! She thinks along with that and Omie's cooking she will have to go get a new wardrobe. She says she will just buy MooMoos :) lol

She's OUT

Patty was released from the hospital yesterday!!! She will be staying with Omie and Opie for a little while so she won't be running back and forth on HWY 90. She is in good spirits and in wonderful hands...when I left her she was sitting at the table eating a coconut pie!! Hopefully she will be able to get on the blog and start posting! THANKS to all of you for all of your prayers! We must realize that the surgery is one battle in this war...so we are asking you to please stay constant with your prayers for her and her family as well as for her medical team!!!

So its been a couple days since i posted last, let me catch yall up. She has been doing wonderful the last couple of days and the doctor is pleased with her recovery but it looks like she will be recovering for a while longer. She has her good and bad days, feeling wonderful in the morning and then through out the day she starts to feel bad, its an up and down hill climb. The last day and a half she has been doing really well but today when i saw her for a little while she was in intense pain. The doctor said that was normal but he was going to give her some different medicine and demands she rest, get good sleep and be left alone. He said she will be in the hospital at least another day or two, do to the pain, tom. she will get to see the scar for the first time and finally get some new bandages and maybe even get to wash her hair
(she cant wait)!!!!! Other then that she is in her own room and resting trying to be good so she can get out!!!

Hi everybody, this is kaela!!! as yall all know mom is doing great and hanging in there!! After a long day at the hospital yesterday i went back today at lunch and sat and talked to her. She is n a bit of pain today but i guess thats what happens when you get your brain opperated on!!! She was up talking, she had a full meal before i got there and she even got up to walk around earlier. Omie and opie were there keeping her company and waiting to talk to the doctor to see how the xrays went last night!! im sure all is good but offcourse we get to wait and see. It was amazing when i saw her for the first time yesterday, it was like nothing had ever happened if you didnt see the bandages. She was up awake, talking, laughing, asking were everybody was and what was going on with us that day!! Im pretty sure the surgery has caught up to her today because shes not so chatty!! but still sitting up and doing GREAT!!! My grandparents have been with her pretty much 24/7, uncle steven, dad, sissy and i were there all day yesterday waiting to see her and talk to her for a while, we thank mickey, debby and aunty liz for sitting with us during that impatient time.

God is Showing His Love!!

God continues to show Patty His love through all of yall!! Thanks so much for logging on...even some of us who has that "Oldtimers"!!! in computer know how!!!

Patty is now in a "REAL" private room...904 in Methodist Hospital!! I talked to Opie today and he said she seems to be doing real well. She left a message (cause of COURSE I'm teaching!) and she sounded good.

Right now is when the little devil crawls in to some of us because everything seems to be going so smoothly...but for REAL Prayer Warriors this is the time to Maintain and increase our Spiritual Foot Hold!!! Keep your armor on and stay on the Offensive!!!

Another Update!

WOW!!! Thanks for all of the wonderful POWERFUL coments and prayers. I was able to read them to Patty last night...she was overwhelmed with all of the love!!

She is actually in NCCU...which is Neuro Critical Care Unit. She will be there most of the day today and depending on how she is doing...they will most likely move her to a private room that isn't as strict as the NCCU.

She was doing pretty good yesterday evening, but she was in some pain. The nurse gave her some pain meds and it seemed to be helping. They took her to get an MRI last night around 11:00ish...(I know...Hospital time!!!!) They were going to check on her every hour so she wasn't going to get alot of sleep anyway! I got to meet the Surgeon...of course he didn't say much but he did stop by and check on her. He said that her recovery time will be about 6 weeks, of course Patty doesn't think it will be that long. They will start chemo in about 2 weeks. Nothing was said about radiation...so more on that later.

She wouldn't let me take her picture??? So here goes...they didn't shave her head...she has a patch above her left ear, that is about it. They wouldn't let her lay down totally to help prevent swelling...so she has to set up and sleep (When she gets enough time between all of the nurses ) The nurses are GREAT!!! Very helpful and very careing. One of them had checked out and was going home and dropped by to tell Patty good night!! COOL

The prayers are awesome!! The strength they are giving Omie and Opie and Kenneth and the girls is fantastic!! Keep it up Prayer Warriors...the battle is still being fought!!

Let's get started

OK...here goes, Patty will have her surgery on Tuesday May 12 at 7:30ish...depending on the doc and the traffic!$#$ She will be in surgery for about 3 hours then she will spend the night in ICU for at least one night. Hopefully after the first night she will be moved to either PCU??? or maybe a private room...depends on how she is doing and if the nurses don't kick her out of ICU early!! The Doc said she would be in the hospital for 3 days give or take??? Our goal with the blog is so yall can keep up with her status and how she is doing...AND so she can hear from all of yall! So log on and say a few things...
